Shipping Manager Light is a web application developed for bpost, Belgium’s postal operator, enabling both individuals and businesses to prepare and send parcels to addresses across Belgium and Europe. The application guides users through the shipping process and lets them choose from different delivery options, making sending a parcel as straightforward as possible.
Behind this simple user experience is an application connected to several external services and bpost systems. Payment functionality is integrated, while address and location functionality uses Google Maps through bpost Geo 6. Google and Facebook login were also integrated to make accessing the application easier for users.
Shipping Manager Light communicates with bpost’s back-end and supply chain systems through web services. These integrations connect the customer-facing application with the operational processes required to handle the shipment. The solution was hosted on Amazon cloud infrastructure, providing a scalable and reliable environment for the application.
From 2014 to 2018, Infanion designed, developed and delivered Shipping Manager Light for bpost. During this period, we were also responsible for the application’s hosting, maintenance and support, ensuring its reliability and continuity in daily use.
A key objective throughout the project was to combine a straightforward customer experience with the complex integrations required to connect payment, location, authentication, back-end and supply chain services. What appears to the user as a simple process for preparing and sending a parcel is supported by multiple systems and services working together behind the scenes.
In 2018, the application was successfully transferred to the bpost team, who took over its further management. Shipping Manager Light remains in use today. For us, that proves the impact of the project: building a solution that not only simplified parcel shipping for its users, but also proved its value over the long term.
